Principal Dr. Polson


Dr. Bilal Polson, since December 2007, served the students and families of Northern Parkway Elementary School in Uniondale, NY, as assistant principal and currently as principal, commencing July 1, 2016. Upon graduation from the prestigious LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts, Bilal received his undergraduate degree from New York University. He studied Movement Therapy at the University of California, Los Angeles and holds degrees from Adelphi University in education and in educational administration from Hofstra University. Principal Polson received his doctoral degree in educational leadership at Hofstra University in May 2013. As a member of the Board of Governors for the Early Childhood Education Assembly (ECEA) of National Council of Teachers of English (NTCE) he serves as the treasurer for the ECEA. Dr. Polson currently serves on the advisory board for the Professional Dyads of Culturally Relevant Teaching (PDCRT) project, initiated by the Affirmative Action Committee of the Early Childhood Education Assembly (ECEA) of National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) for the cohort 2019 - 2021. Dr. Polson has consistently presented at a host of local and national conferences and co-authored a number of peer reviewed journal articles and featured in an book chapter of Courageous Leadership a manuscript published by Teachers College (2016). Bilal co-edited a manuscript published by NCTE/Routledge (early 2020 release). He enjoys living in Bay Shore, NY with his wife Patty and sons, Aliasha and Malachi.

Dr. Sheilah Jefferson-Isaac is currently serving as an assistant principal at Northern Parkway Elementary School in Uniondale, New York. With over thirty years as a professional educator, her guiding educational philosophy has always been to empower students to become independent, creative, confident, and critical thinkers. Her doctoral work focused on increasing the mathematical potential of those traditionally underrepresented in mathematically related fields. Dr. Jefferson-Isaac’s favorite motto and Twitter hashtag, #learningisjoyful, reminds us that school should be filled with joyful learning experiences.

Assistant Principal Ms. Iraida A. Bodre


Ms. Iraida A. Bodre is an assistant principal at the Northern Parkway Elementary School. She has been in the field of education for over 20 years, providing instruction in Bilingual, Dual Language and General Education classrooms. She believes in the gifts every student contributes and encourages others to help students unwrap those gifts and talents in support of their academic journey. Her journey includes Degrees from Queens College, Brooklyn College and an Advanced Certificate from Stony Brook University. Ms. Bodre has been an active member of the New York State Association for Bilingual Education and is serving as the President for the 2017-2018 year.

Ms. Bodre is honored to serve the Uniondale community. She looks forward to sharing her time and her talents to empower the treasures we care for.
