Thanks to a generous donation from the Long Island Nets, Northern Parkway School will be receiving a items to create a brand new sensory room for our students. A sensory room in a school is a specially designed space that provides a calming and stimulating environment for students, particularly those with sensory processing challenges or special needs. These rooms are equipped with various sensory tools and activities, such as soft lighting, textured surfaces, calming sounds, aromatherapy, and interactive elements.
The primary goal is to help students regulate their emotions, focus, and self-soothe. It can be used for students needing a break from the classroom, offering them a safe space to recharge and refocus before returning to their studies. Sensory rooms can also support learning by engaging different senses in a controlled way.
